We developed a vetiver-Dictyosphaerium sp. co-culture system for the rapid removal of nutrients and the efficient inactivation of pathogens in swine wastewater. Wastewater properties were measured in Hangzhou, China at different culture times in vetiver culture, Dictyosphaerium sp. culture, and vetiver-Dictyosphaerium sp. co-culture. This dataset illustrates the change patterns in wastewater chemical properties of different cultures, as well as the bacterial community shift in vetiver-Dictyosphaerium sp. co-culture. This dataset could help to establish an ecological and side effect-free strategy for simultaneous removal of nutrients and pathogens in wastewater.
