The essay investigates the role and the functions of the Syndicus during the Late Roman Empire. In particular, it focuses on analyzing the testimony of Arc. Char. L.S. de mun. civ. (D. 50.4.18.3) and Herm. 1 epist. (D. 50.4.1.2), assuming that various administrative functions (also those different from the original task of legal representation of corporations of the civitates) were attributed to the Syndici during the period from the late third century to the first half of the fourth century.
