European production studios are involved in numerous international co-productions, notably from major US media firms, contributing to some of the biggest international film and TV shows. Streaming services have broken down language barriers that once hindered European productions, giving continental studios a wider reach. Despite these opportunities, video production revenue is projected to fall at a compound annual rate of 5% to €49.6 billion over the five years through 2024, primarily caused by the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak which halted productions across the globe. This decline in industry revenue includes a projected 1.9% decrease in revenue during 2024.
