Forest Inventory of the Ice Storm Experiment (ISE) plots at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest

As the climate changes, it is thought that ice storms
will begin to occur with increasing frequency. This project
evaluates the damage and changes ice storms cause to northern
hardwood forests in forest structure, nutrient cycling and
carbon storage. Ten 20x30 meter plots were established in a
predominately sugar maple stand, with four icing treatments
and 2 control plots. This data set includes species and
diameter breats height measurements of every tree with a DBH
greater than or equal to 5 cm, as of June 2015. Trees will be
remeasured every spring until 2019.
These data were gathered as part of the Hubbard Brook
Ecosystem Study (HBES). The HBES is a collaborative effort at
the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, which is operated and
maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research
Station.
