Eugenia of the World

Eugenia is the largest genus of neotropical Myrtaceae (the myrtle family) and one of the most taxonomically challenging. Help us by transcribing the label data from each of the Eugenia specimens housed in the Herbarium at Kew.
Digitisation plays a key role in enhancing overall access to the Herbarium collections by databasing and imaging the specimens. Digital collections not only result in an archive digital backup of the physical collections, but also contributes to the global access of plant diversity, due to the ease of distributing these digital images via the internet.
Kew gardens, working with researchers in Brazil, have investigated the validity of currently recognised infrageneric groups in Eugenia. The study used the largest Eugenia sample analysed to date and included representative species from Africa, Asia and the Pacific. You can find more about this work in Kew Bulletin.
