Microbial diversity and abundance distribution from perennial vegetative strip into adjacent crop land

This database is supplemented with the taxonomy-annotated OTU tables for fungi and bacteria, which were constructed to profile microbial communities and their distribution in the agricultural soil. The dataset also contains measurements of selected soil physicochemical properties at each study sampling point. These data were collected and generated to evaluate the effect of Perennial vegetative strips (PVS) on the distribution of soil microbial diversity and abundance in adjacent crop fields. The study was conducted in spring 2024 across five agricultural sites (A-E) with monoculture practices (oats or spring barley) in Prague (East), Czech Republic. Table 1 presents the site location characteristics. The PVS at these fields were established in 2021. From each field, five replicate plots (a-e) were selected, each extending 30 cm into the PVC and 10 m into the crop field from the PVC-crop land boundary. Soil was sampled from six points at -30 cm (1), +30 cm (2), +60cm (3), +2m (4), +5 m (5), and +10 m (6) along each transect of the replicate plots, totalling 30 samples per site. Selected soil physicochemical parameters, such as soil pH, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, conductivity, etc., were measured at each sampling point. Fungal and bacterial diversity and composition were analysed using Illumina next-generation sequencing of PCR amplicons of fungal Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) and bacterial V3-V4 regions. The comprehensive accounting of this study and its outcomes will be presented in the forthcoming manuscript, which is currently being prepared.
