BAT009 - Batta - Flute and drum procession, Wayman

This dataset contains an audio recording of part of an all-night flute and drum procession in Wayman village (Batanta island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). This procession was in celebration of the appointment of several new village heads by the local government. The recording was made in the early hours of 12 December 2019. This dataset relates to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Grant from the University of Edinburgh.
