Evaluation of Device-Based Treatment Options for Patients with Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

This thesis develops advanced physical and computer-based models to test treatment devices and guide next-generation designs for complex heart failure cases. It evaluates two devices: one currently in clinical trials and another designed for different heart failure cases but repurposed in a new configuration. The findings suggest that a novel heart pump could be most beneficial but should be specifically tailored to this patient group to reduce complications. Virtual patient fitting and numerical simulations assess anatomical constraints and the risk of blood clots, providing critical insights that inform the development and implementation of device-based therapies for this patient group.
