We want to characterize the nano-cavities in transparent wood. This is a novel materials having many potential applications such as smart buildings and photonics. Poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) had been immersed in the processed wood cell wall frame to improve the transparency. We believe that the random size cavity, which is caused by the PMMA volume shrinkage during polymerization and incompatibility between and PMMA and cell, has major impact on the light transmission. Thus, to determine the cavity 3D distribution is very essential. The size of cavity is about ~30-200 nm basing on the SEM results, to resolve these we want to perform holographic X-ray computed Tomography with a pixel size of 25nm.
