The Effects of Mycorrhizal Inoculation on Common Stormwater Biofilter Plants

My research explores enhancing stormwater biofilters—systems that filter polluted runoff using plants—by inoculating them with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). These beneficial fungi form symbiotic relationships with plant roots, improving water use and nutrient uptake. Through a series of lab and field experiments, I found that AMF inoculation boosts root growth and plant resilience, particularly under drought conditions. This leads to more efficient pollutant removal and sustained biofilter performance, contributing to improved urban water management and ecosystem health.
