Post-mitotic neurons in the mammalian brain form synapses that dynamically remodel throughout an individual’s lifetime to encode learning and memory. Here, we create high-resolution genome folding maps in >12 Megabases around IEGs and synaptic genes and find that 12% of long-range looping interactions are induced de novo during cortical neuron activation. Overall design: Gene expression, enhancer activity, and looping status across 3 neuronal activity states quantified by RNA-seq, H3K27ac ChIP-seq, and 5C.
