The isolation of an unconventional budding yeast, Schwanniomyces polymorphus, from wetland soil samples. The yeast was specifically isolated for its ability to thrive in a corn stover hydrolysate environment, which presents a unique set of environmental stressors. The primary goal of this research is to elucidate the mechanisms underlying stress tolerance and resistance in Schwanniomyces polymorphus when exposed to the harsh conditions of corn stover hydrolysate. By performing whole-genome resequencing, we aim to identify genetic factors and pathways that contribute to the yeast's resilience. This research holds significant relevance for industrial biotechnology, particularly in optimizing microbial strains for bioethanol production and other bioconversion processes that utilize lignocellulosic biomass. The insights gained from this study may facilitate the development of robust yeast strains capable of efficient fermentation in lignocellulosic hydrolysates.
