This proposal aims to utilize tender X-ray XAS at the potassium K-edge to investigate the state of K as a key promoter in Fe-based catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to long-chain hydrocarbons (CO2 Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, CO2-FTS). In situ XAS will allow the study of the K state directly under conditions close to CO2-FT reaction, providing insights into the structure and local environment of this essential promoter. Spectra will be collected during catalytic reaction (CO2 and H2 mixture, 300°C, ambient pressure). Analyzing these results along with the already available catalytic and ex situ characterization data will enable a deeper understanding of the role of the K promoter in Fe-based catalysts. This knowledge will form the scientific basis for developing the next generation of efficient CO2 Fischer-Tropsch catalysts.
