Sincethelastsituationreportonthemulti-countryoutbreakofcholerawaspublishedon4August2023(coveringdatareporteduntil15ofJuly),andasof15August2023,threenewoutbreaksofcholeraand/orAcuteWateryDiarrhoeawerereportedfromUganda,Sudan,andtheRepublicoftheCongo.Intotal,28countrieshavereportedcasessincethebeginningof2023.TheWHOAfricanRegionremainsthemostaffectedregionwith16countriesreportingcholeracasessincethebeginningoftheyear.Theoverallcapacitytorespondtothemultipleandsimultaneousoutbreakscontinuestobestrainedduetothegloballackofresources,includingshortagesoftheoralcholeravaccineandcholerasupplies,aswellasoverstretchedpublichealthandmedicalpersonnel,whoaredealingwithmultipleparalleldiseaseoutbreaksandotherhealthemergencies.Basedonthelargenumberofoutbreaksandtheirgeographicexpansion,aswellasalackofvaccinesandotherresources,WHOcontinuestoassesstheriskatgloballevelasveryhigh.
