Australian Films from 1900 to 1929

This is a collection of materials held at the AFI Research Collection (AFIRC) that relate directly to Australian films screened from 1900 to 1929. The time frame covered in this collection is often labelled the silent era as films of this time did not have sound. Due to the time frame of this collection (before the inception of the AFIRC and the Australian Film Institute) the amount of materials held here are small, but in many ways they are important as they are difficult to locate elsewhere. Most of the items held in this collection are books, journal articles, and clippings files.
