A treatise on Syntax called الوافى, by MUḤAMMAD B. ‘OTHMÂN B. ‘OMAR BALKHÎ (who lived at least as early as the eighth century, see no. 972). Cf. Ḥ Kh. vi. 419. No other copy besides this and the following MS. is known. The name of the author occurs in the preface, and allusion is made in it to the above title, by the words (fol. 5)

 و كتابى هذا وافٍ بحلّ نفائسه الخ

The preface begins:

 الحمد لله الذى بيده تصريف الاحوال ׳ و نحو كرمه مقصد ذوى الآمال

and the treatise commences:

 النحو علم باصول يُعرف بها احوال اللفظ العربى من الاعراب و البناء ليُحترز به عن الخطاء فى التاليف

Boldly written by several hands, with vowel-points. Copious glosses , which are mostly transcribed from kindred works and from commentaries (e.g. the undermentioned منهل ) , are added by ( مخدوم ) كبير الدين كابلى ( sic ) ابن قاصيحۀ , for whom the copy seems to have been made. A list of the abbreviations used for the said works (علامات كتب كه نقل حواشى ازان كرده شده است) is written on the title-page.

One leaf is missing after fol. 9. Worm-eaten.
