Soil water is usually collected by ceramic filtration with porous candles. The ceramic pores being considerably larger than the bacteriophage size, the porous candles has been used as a novel method to collect bacteriophages from soil water. The passage of bacteriophages through the candle remains uncertain as they are known to adsorb onto ceramic.
