Interview by Ewa Bal and Yana Partola with Polish theatre director Katarzyna Szyngiera, winner of the Konrad Laur Award at the 20th Interpretations Festival for the play Lwów nie oddamy! (We Won't Give Up Lviv!). Winner of the main prize at the m-teatr Youth Confrontations Festival for the play Świadkowie albo nasza mała stabilizacja (Witnesses or Our Little Stabilisation). Katarzyna Szyngiera has collaborated with theatres throughout Poland, including the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Krakow (Jedzonko, 1989), the Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw (Metoda na serce. Śledztwo), the Polish Theatre in Bydgoszcz (Swarka), the Wanda Siemaszkowa Theatre in Rzeszów (Lwów nie oddamy, Granica), the Contemporary Theatre in Szczecin, and the Wrocław Contemporary Theatre. As part of the WFDiF ‘Teatroteka’ project, she produced the television theatre production “Zgaga” (Heartburn). She directed the short film ‘Onset adulthood’. She co-authored reportages (with Mirosław Wlekły) published in the Reporter Magazine Duży Format. She was nominated for the Teresa Torańska Newsweek Award for her reportage Swarka. In many of her productions, she explored Polish-Ukrainian relations in the borderlands of both countries.
The interview is part of the Spoken Archive of Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation in Theatre from 2014 to the present day, carried out at the Jagiellonian University as part of the National Science Centre grant No. 2024/53/B/HS2/02533 entitled 'Theatre as a laboratory of Polish-Ukrainian encounters from 2014 to the present day.
