The objects of this study were to characterize aging process of heart, and to test if suppression of insulin/IGF-1 signaling modifies cardiac aging. Young (3-month old) and old (20 to 24-month old), transgenic mice (expressing a cardiac-restricted dominant-negative mutant of PI3K) and non-transgenic littermates were examined. We analyzed gene expression using whole-genome microarrays on heart samples (n=6 for each group). A comparison of the gene expression profile among 4 groups was performed with special attention to the genes affected by aging or by suppression of insulin signaling.
