VPRS 11515 Register of Precedents and Ministerial Orders

The register is a compilation of precedent decisions made by the Board of Advice on issues relating to conditions for teachers, pupils and Departmental employees. These decisions were usually made in response to correspondence received or upon request by the Minister.Examples of decisions made by the Board include matters such as the appointment of teachers, corporal punishment, circulars, diseases, examinations, holidays, claims for expenses, inspectors reports, school maintenance and many others.Some entries include opinions of the Crown Solicitor.Although, initially, this series was maintained by the Boards of Advice, the date range of the series extends beyond the life of the Boards of Advice (the Board ceased in 1910) and it seems likely that the term Board of Advice became a generic term for precedents and Ministerial Orders. It is also likely that the Boards of Advice opinions after 1910 came from a central point within the Department.
