资源简介:
Histrionic personality disorder (HPD) is characterized by individuals who behave impulsively, constantly seek attention from others, and experience anxiety when they feel that attention is diminishing. Social media is a platform where individuals with histrionic tendencies can get their attention in a short space of time, but its excessive use may increase the risk of social media disorder (SMD). Indeed, research confirms this, but provides little evidence of how to manage the relationship between the two and thus reduce the risk of SMD. Based on the assumption that self-regulation (S-R), in which individuals can control their impulses, can manage the HPD-SMD relationship, the current study reached 362 undergraduate students (age range: 18-27, X̄: 21.13±1.55, 252 females, 110 males) using a cross-sectional survey design. The results showed that females and students in the first years of education had higher mean HPD and SMD and lower mean S-R, and that HPD increased the risk of SMD, but S-R moderated this effect. Considering some of the limitations of the current study, suggestions are made for future studies, especially in regard to sex/gender stereotyping.
