Acinetobacter baumannii strains from a public academic hospital in Gauteng, South Africa

Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen that causes various healthcare-associated infections. There has been an increase in multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains globally. For this reason, clinicians have resorted to using colistin for treatment due to decreasing treatment options. This study aimed to describe and evaluate the epidemiological, clinical and microbiological attributes of A. baumannii isolated from patients at a public academic hospital in the Gauteng province in South Africa and to confirm colistin resistance with WGS.
