Staphylococcus aureus joint infections

Joint infections by Staphylococcus aureus: genotypic characteristics and evolution of clonal complex 5 in Community of Madrid (Spain). Prosthetic joint infections (PJI) and native septic arthritis can produce an important morbimortality and their management is challenging. Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main pathogens causing these infections. The aim of this study is to describe the genotypic (resistance genes, virulence genes...) characteristics of methicillin-resistant S. aureus isolates belonging to clonal complex 5 causing PJIs and native arthritis in adults. This study is developed with 43 isolates from different hospitals of Community of Madrid (Spain) during the years 2005 to 2017. The evolution of the isolates during 12 years and the possible differences between PJIs and native arthritis will be studied.
