The colostrum microbiota of Chinese women

we collected colostrum samples from five ethnic groups in large-scale geographically isolated areas in China, to characterize the diversity and composition of colostrum microbiota. Our particular focus was on the co-occurrent ethnicity between HMOs categories in colostrum with infant-gut-related microbiota represented by genera Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus at species or strain level. To achieve this goal, we used a combination of optimized 16S rRNA gene V1-V3 region and groEL gene specific to Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus to gain an in-depth profiling of the prevalence and composition of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli phylotypes in colostrum, especially low abundant taxa.
