Molecular genetic characterization of strains of monophasic Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (1,4,[5],12:i:-) isolated from patients with diarrheal syndrome and a food product of animal origin in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica

Bacteria of the genus Salmonella cause diarrheal diseases in children and adults in all countries. In the last 20 years, the serological variant "monophasic S. Typhimurium" with the antigenic formula "1,4,[5],12: i-" has become a widespread causative agent of Salmonella infection in many countries. Three strains of monophasic S. Typhimurium with the antigenic formula "1,4,5,12 :i-" were isolated from hospitalized patients with diarrhea in Saint Petersburg in 2015, 2019 and 2022. Also, one strain was isolated from a food product (beef) in 2016. These strains belong to ST 34 and are resistant to antimicrobial drugs.
