The Manufacturing Facility Inventory National Dataset (M-FIND)

The U.S. Manufacturing Facility Inventory National Dataset (M-FIND) provides a standardized inventory of manufacturing facilities in the United States (excluding U.S. territories) and corresponding metadata, including location, North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) designation(s), flags for facilities that exist on the same land parcel, and estimated parcel-level area. The research team processes records across 13 individual, publicly available data sources and uses a hierarchal integration approach to reconcile and match facility records across datasets. This approach systematically prioritizes higher-confidence datasets while incorporating supplementary records to maximize the chance of capturing unique manufacturing facilities. Geospatial land parcel data are also leveraged to match facilities to parcels, which improves matching accuracy and reduces the chances of duplication. The resulting dataset, containing 340,229 facilities, fills a critical gap in industrial facility analysis by providing a harmonized and spatially resolved inventory that is more comprehensive than any single source alone. This resource is expected to be broadly valuable to stakeholders involved in industrial planning, environmental management, and other fields working with manufacturing facility data.
