Y chromosome accumulates various repetitive DNA in its nor-recombining region. In many species, the pace of Y chromosome enlargement surpasses genome size increase at the beginning of sex chromosome evolution. We have compared genome size and Y chromosome dynamics in Silene latifolia at the population level. Based on quantification of most repetitive sequences in S. latifolia we have compared the distribution of mainly transposable elements in entire genome and on the Y chromosome. We show that expansion phase of Y chromosome evolution has finished in S. latifolia.
