资源简介:
This research investigated the potential application of the oral microbiome as a diagnostic tool for gastric disorders. Motivated by the discomfort and invasiveness associated with current diagnostic methods, researchers sought a less intrusive approach. Considering the established link between the oral and gastric microbiomes, the study employed a cross-sectional design to evaluate the oral bacterial profiles of participants undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (a procedure to visualize the stomach lining) across two Brazilian locations. The analysis focused on the diversity and abundance of bacterial populations within the samples, aiming to identify potential differences between individuals with healthy gastric conditions and those exhibiting abnormalities. While the study identified prevalent bacterial genera, no statistically significant associations emerged between alpha diversity profiles and endoscopy outcomes. Similarly, beta diversity analyses failed to reveal any correlations. Overall, the findings do not support the oral microbiome as a reliable marker for gastric health, underlining the need for further exploration of alternative, non-invasive diagnostic methods for gastric ailments.
