These are registers of patients treated in Balmain Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The unit was operating by 1967. (1)The volumes are chronological with each day represented by a double page spread. Patients and their details are listed on each day of their stay, not just the day of admission.For many patients, an adhesive printed label has been applied to the record which usually provides: medical record number; name; address; date of birth; sex; doctor; ward; date admitted, and whether hospital (public), private or unknown. For other patients, this information has been entered by hand. Additional columns provide: bed number, diagnosis, age in years, separation day number, ward (or other) transferred to and time, and pathology requested. A remarks column contains notes on the patient's treatment.Endnote1.
