The invention relates to a shielding device (1) for shielding a saw blade (3) or saw band of a sawing machine against access by an operator and against workpiece parts being thrown around， which shielding device can be attached to the sawing machine in such a way that， in a working position， the shielding device covers the saw blade (3) or saw band toward the operator. The invention is characterized by the fact that the shielding device (1) comprises a temperature monitoring unit (2)， which has a temperature sensor (4) operating without contact， which， when the shielding device (1) is attached to the sawing machine and is in the working position， is directed toward the teeth of the saw blade (3) or saw band， and also a display device (5)， which displays the surface temperature on the surface of the teeth of the saw blade (3)， detected by the temperature sensor (4). The invention further relates to a sawing machine equipped with the shielding device.
