资源简介:

National monument No. 247. Situated on east-facing slope of Knockadoon overlooking Lough Gur, Co. Limerick, in an area rich with prehistoric monuments. Bronze-age kerbed enclosure excavated in 1940 by Professor Seán P. Ó Ríordáin. Monument consists of a circular-shaped area enclosed by well preserved double kerbing defined by low orthostats with entrance gap on east side. Excavation around the entrance gap revealed rock cut postholes which supported timbers for a possible wooden gate. In the centre of the circle, the remains of a rectangular building (LI032-022011-) probably a house was uncovered. Two major phases of activity were uncovered. A small quantity of later Bronze Age material came from higher levels on the site. The prehistoric site is on private land and there is no access to the monument without the landowner's permission.
