Prostate cancer (PCa) is a highly heterogeneous disease. Patients with indolent tumors can live for decades after receiving a cancer diagnosis whereas for advanced cancer survival rate is very low. Insight into the genomic landscape of prostate cancer might help understand the pathogenesis of PCa. Moreover, information about cancer-associated somatic mutations can be instrumental in developing a new approach to molecular classification of tumors and risk stratification and help predict response to therapy. In this study, we performed whole exome and targeted DNA sequencing of tumorous and normal prostate tissue obtained from Russian patients with PCa and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Using samples from patients with BPH as a control group increases specificity of the results of subsequent analyses.
