This series consists of letters received by the Minister for Education ("registered ministerial letters") which have been grouped together in subject files relating to various campaigns conducted by the public. The campaigns include: protests at budget cuts for education; changes to the Higher School Certificate; teachers' hours and salaries; corporal punishment; creationism versus evolution; integration of handicapped students; bans on South African students; complaints re English texts; Education and Public Instruction Bill; sports policy; truancy; library services; peace studies; English as a second language programmes; the proposed Cape Byron International Academy; Technical and Further Education Colleges' administrative charges and staffing. Many of the campaigns relate to individual schools and these concern matters such as staffing levels, transfer of teachers, class sizes, accommodation and facilities. Most letters have covering sheets showing their registration number and action taken. Many letters have copies of replies attached. Some files contain departmental memoranda summarising the campaign letters (number and type of letters received). (11/19379-418). 40 boxes.
