Rethinking Industrialised House Building Business Model Through Product Platform

This thesis examines how house building can shift from traditional site based construction to more industrialised, factory style production. It focuses on product platforms, sets of standard parts that can be reused across many homes, and on the business models and capabilities firms need to make this work. The research reviews existing studies, then analyses bathroom pod manufacturers and construction start ups. It shows how firms currently organise their activities, how they can move from project based to more product based strategies, and what kinds of decisions and capabilities are needed to support this transition in practice.
