Graft Promoting Molecules

Grafting is a technique that joins two or more plants together to grow as a single organism, but the efficiency of grafting varies among plant species, and some species are considered difficult to graft. In general, grafting can be achieved between genetically related species, whereas it is often unsuccessful between distantly related species. To identify chemical compounds that enhance grafting efficiency, a screening was carried out using the in vitro grafting (IVG) method in Phaseolus coccineus, a member of the Fabaceae family, resulting in the identification of a candidate molecule. Transcriptome analysis was performed one day after treatment with this molecule, with the auxin analog 2,4-D, or with a mock control.
