The American Meteorological Society's Summer 2014 Policy Colloquium. Part 2: Science Policy Communication and Applications

This paper highlights discussions on the challenges of science policy communications, and some applications and related exercises conducted during the American Meteorological Society's (AMS) 2014 Summer Policy Colloquium in Washington D.C. The colloquium is a program that brings together professionals in federal and state governments, academia, and the private sector with atmospheric, ocean, environmental, and climate science backgrounds. Participants are trained on how to use their scientific expertise to influence policy making and the budget process, with the goal of improving society's resilience and response to atmospheric, oceanic, environmental, and climate challenges.
