Michigan Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) 2023

A CAFO is an animal feeding operation that is regulated under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting program. The NPDES program regulates discharges from point sources to surface waters, and under the Clean Water Act, CAFOs are considered point sources of pollution. This data includes regulated CAFOs in Michigan in 2023 only, and features information about each site including its designated name, permittee name, permit status, total animals housed, how much waste it produces, how much land is available and used for CAFO waste application. This contains regulated CAFOs in 2023. To view CAFOs prior to 2023, view this open data layer. New layers will be added to the open data portal on a yearly basis.
