Mineral surfaces as hotspots for microbes and element cycling in the Biodiversity Exploratories. Mesh bags (mesh size 50 micrometer) were placed in 5cm soil depth, meshes were filled with a mixture of sand and either geothit or illit mineral, harvest after remaining in soil for 5 years, each sample from mesh bag is acompanied by a soil sample taken direktly on top of the mesh bag. DNA was extracted from frozen material and fungal ITS2 region was amplified using PCR and sequenced using Illumina MiSeq.
