Branching Out Citizen Panels, 2023-2024

This collection comprises two sets of stories generated in a series of ‘citizen’ panel workshops conducted in York, Milton Keynes and Cardiff in 2023 and 2024. The broad topic of the panels was relational value associated with the urban treescape.

The first set of panels covered current relationships with the urban treescape, and related treescape attributes to values. The purpose of the second set of panels was to generate general visions of the future treescape, as well as ideas for improvements to specific locations. These panels also included some representatives of local decision makers.

The data sheets in this collection contain a set of 213 stories of the present from each city of residents’ interactions with trees and treescapes in their cities now and during their lifetime, and a set of 86 stories of the future from each city of residents’ visions and preferences of treescapes in their cities in 2050 or 2125. The data sheets also include, for each story, which Life Frames, social and cultural values and tree characteristics it reflects/captures. Where applicable, stories also have a general location (area name) associated with them.

In addition to the data sheets, a Readme file about the project and data is included together with topic guides for each panel set are (with the relevant activities highlighted), copies of the materials provided to participants during the panels, a presentation detailing the LIFE framework as adapted for use in the project, code book, participant master sheet and data list.
