## Description of the data and file structure

Sequence data from the plastid *trnD–trnT* region were downloaded from GenBank and aligned into a dataset comprising 430 terminals, representing a broad range of taxa within *Mimosa*. Phylogenetic inference was conducted using IQ-TREE (Trifinopoulos et al. 2016) under a maximum likelihood framework with default parameters. Node support was estimated using ultrafast bootstrap support with 1000 replicates.
