A Global Checklist of Polychaetes (Annelida) from Deep-Sea Chemosynthetic and Reducing Habitats

This dataset provides a curated global checklist of polychaetes (Annelida) documented from deep-sea chemosynthetic and reducing habitats, including hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, methane seeps, whale falls, sunken wood, organic falls and other reducing sedimentary environments. The checklist was compiled through an extensive review of published taxonomic, ecological and faunistic literature, with taxonomic names checked against the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). The dataset records taxonomic placement, accepted names, AphiaIDs, LSIDs, source literature, habitat information, locality information and taxonomic or ecological remarks. The dataset includes 368 polychaete taxon records. These records include WoRMS-accepted taxa, provisionally identified taxa, taxa currently treated as taxon inquirendum and selected taxonomically problematic records retained with explanatory remarks. The dataset covers major ocean basins and provides a baseline resource for biodiversity assessment, taxonomic synthesis, biogeographical comparison and future occurrence-level data mobilisation for deep-sea chemosynthetic and reducing habitats.
