Sales share of large-scale ryokan in Japan FY 2018, by segment

Large-scale ryokans generated the majority of sales revenue, around 73.5 percent, through their accommodation sales in fiscal year 2018, compared to just over five percent through beverage sales. Ryokan are Japanese style inns furnished in a traditional manner, with rooms covered with tatami mats and sliding doors. Guests usually sleep on a futon (bedding) put directly on the tatami floor.
