Faba Bean Agronomy in the Southern New South Wales High Rainfall Zone 2025

Raw data from Grains Research and Development Corporation funded High Rainfall Zone Faba Bean National Grower Network agronomy project at Thuddungra and Gerogery (New South Wales), led by Brill Ag in collaboration with Field Applied Research (FAR) Australia. Data generated from replicated small plot trials (plots generally 20 square metres each) investigating interactions between faba bean varieties (including PBA Samira, PBA Nasma, PBA Bendoc, PBA Amberley, all bred by Faba Bean Breeding Australia) and sowing date (April and May); plant density (target 10 to 40 plants per square metre); phosphorus nutrition (rates of nil to 50 kg phosphorus per hectare as mono-ammonium phosphate, placed in furrow or broadcast pre-seeding) and fungal (primarily chocolate spot) disease management (including comparisons of fungicide choice and timing). Trials were either split-plot design (including sowing date and disease management) or randomised complete block design (designed using diGGer). Primary data collected was grain yield (related directly to profitability), grain size (hundred grain weight, affects suitability to export markets) and crop biomass (related to nitrogen fixation).
