16S Microbiome Assessment in Pneumonic Calves from a farm in British Columbia, Canada

The primary goal of the study was to determine differences between the microbiomes of healthy (HLT), pneumonic (POS), and previously pneumonic (PRV) calves from a single farm dealing with a high prevalence of Mycoplasmopsis bovis. Ear and nasopharyngeal swabs were collected from a BC farm. Libraries for the 16S rRNA gene were generated by Norgen Biotek Corp. using the 16S V4 Library Preparation Kit for Illumina. Next generation sequencing was completed using the Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform with the MiSeq Reagent Nano Kit V2.
