The aim of this study is to investigate the genomic and morphological characteristics of Periconia belmontensis sp. nov., a novel species isolated from the Sao Pedro and Sao Paulo Archipelago. The genus Periconia is known for its ability to produce bioactive compounds with biotechnological applications. Using multilocus phylogenetic analysis, morphological comparisons and whole-genome sequencing, the study not only establishes a new species, but also identifies its unique genetic features and biosynthetic potential. These findings are expected to expand the molecular database for Periconia and facilitate the discovery of novel bioactive molecules, highlighting the importance of the genus in biotechnology.
