Psychological hardiness among Ukrainian healthcare workers during wartime: a sociodemographic analysis

Background: For over three years, Russia has continuously targeted civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, including numerous medical facilities, using missiles and drones. Despite constant exposure to stress and danger, Ukrainian healthcare workers (HW) continue to perform their duties, ensuring uninterrupted medical care. This study aimed to assess the psychological hardiness of Ukrainian HW in wartime. Methods: This quantitative study used a one-time online survey with the Ukrainian version of the Professional Hardiness Questionnaire (PHQ) assessing seven subcomponents of psychological hardiness. Results: The overall level of psychological hardiness among HW was moderate (M = 65.3, SD = 12.2). The motivational and professional control components showed the highest scores, while the professional component was the lowest. Higher hardiness was associated with older age (p = .040) and holding a managerial position (p
