This project investigates microbial community structure in seawater and sediments of the Inner Saronikos Gulf and Elefsis Bay, Greece, areas affected by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination from multiple anthropogenic activities. Environmental DNA metabarcoding was used to characterize microbial diversity across dissolved, particulate, and sediment phases in order to assess ecological responses to hydrocarbon stress in a semi-enclosed Mediterranean coastal system.
