Phylogenetic and taxonomic reassessment of the genera Echinoderma and Lepiota

The taxonomic position of the section Echinatae, in its traditional sense, is analyzed based on morphological investigations and multilocus phylogeny (ITS, LSU, mtSSU, RPB2), including type sequences. The results confirm the phylogenetic justification of the genus Echinoderma; however, some species treated as Echinoderma form a monophyletic section within Lepiota. Several sections of Lepiota are validated and recombined as a result of a nomenclatural reassessment of the infrageneric system. Lectotypes and epitypes are designated for species lacking type specimens. Additionally, sequences of specimens identified as Echinoderma asperum form several clades, which are discussed in a taxonomic context.
