Data on the cellular uptake of 12 gold nanoparticles (GNPs), 12 platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs), and 12 palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) by A549 cells with different ligand chemistries, including the following information: identifier for each nanoparticle sample, total surface area of nanoparticles taken up per A549 cell (10^6 nm^2 cell^-1), standard deviation from three experiments, control condition (cell culture medium), experimental protocol, nanoparticle shape (sphere), core material (gold, platinum, or palladium), size (nm), number and SMILES notation of the first type of attached ligand, reference citation, and DOI for the publication.
