During a long-lasting outbreak of carbapenemase producing Enterobacteriales on the hematology ward caused by both blaNDM-1 producing ST18 Citrobacter freundii and blaOXA-232 producing ST231 Klebsiella pneumoniae, a series of environmental screenings in bathrooms (toilets and drains) were conducted to identify and possibly eliminate the source of the outbreak.
